QUBIS HAUS and QUBIS Magnetic Furniture are two new products by Amy Whitworth Design to be launched at the Southbank centre in October as part of the new initiative BOOST.
QUBIS HAUS is one of the winners of the Boost product design competition, a platform for new design talent and a collaboration between the Observer, the Southbank Centre and Cockpit Arts.
QUBIS produces transformational contemporary designs that invite play.
The furniture has been made from locally grown, sustainable oak and hand crafted into various styles of building blocks with embedded magnets, that magically transform into pieces of modern furniture with a simple click. Specific designs are shown with each set - but there are no limits to what you can create. Watch video.
Hand crafted in Wales, the oak blocks have a woody aesthetic, with the knots and imperfections of oak left in to emphasise the authentic feel and character of a natural material.
QUBIS HAUS is a coffee table that transforms into a dolls house with the simple addition of sliding panels made from wood and perspex, enabling the ‘designer’ to create different room layouts.
The table is made in solid birch ply wood and has clean modern lines making it a beautiful piece of living room furniture as well as a centre for children to play.
The table can live permanently in the living room (shared space) so the children can play with it whenever they want.
Full website with product galleries, competitions and much more to be launched later this autumn.
